Jeanette Smith - I Never Had
a Job I Knew How to Do
Hear the Interview

One
of the reasons I believe Jeanette is able to make such
seamless transitions is that she knows herself so well. I
asked her if she ever met someone who said they didn’t think
she could do a job and how she looks at that now.
“I certainly have interviewed for jobs that I didn’t get,
but I think in hindsight what I realize is I probably didn’t
want them that badly. I did interview for a couple of real
hot magazines in New York like Cosmopolitan, but that’s not
really me. I mean it wasn’t important to me to dress to the
nine’s everyday and go to lunch at these chic places. I
liked a bit of that but that’s really all they do and I
would have outgrown the job very quickly so there wasn’t a
right match. So I think that’s the point. The right match
for me seems to be something that’s in its embryonic stage
and needs growth. So again not only am I selling myself into
something I haven’t done before, they need something they
can’t define and I think I’m very good at that. I have my
own company now but all of these jobs were starting with
large companies a new division and that’s something that I
see happen again and again. Not only was I there about five
years, each time I started in a new division and then I grew
it to a new level and then I was interested in moving on and
doing the same thing elsewhere and until I had done it a few
times I hadn’t really recognized that.”
